Hasbeens Sporting Memorabilia Auction
After a few more jars of our favourite amber stimulant, the foundation committee went back to the planning room and came up with the concept of a sporting memorabilia auction to raise monies for Backstop and add further colour and entertainment to our annual event. Not an auction where the corporate cheques pays $100,000 for Dally Messenger's jock strap to hang in the boardroom but an auction where the sports lover has the opportunity to buy a special piece of sporting history - something unique and imaginative to take pride of place in the corporate boardroom, family bar or mantelpiece, or a once in a lifetime sporting experience they will never forget.
Who will ever forget the Tied Test Cricket Bat, the Sydney Olympic Beach Volleyball Bikini, "The Shark's Shark", The Rabbit Bartholomew Mini-Mal or champion jockey's Darren Beadman's blessed Saintly silks; Cliff Youngs signed Wellington boots; Totai Kefus match winning Bledisloe Try - in a 'Flashback Frames' Talking frame complete with commentary & a letter from John Eales promising 'beer for life'; Major General Peter Cosgroves' signed fishing hat; John Howard and Matt Haydens signed cricket bat and numerous extraodinary sporting adventures with the Qld Reds, Brisbane Lions, Qld Cricketers and other sporting personalities & celebrities.
